Known as "the Gravenstein Apple Capital of the World," the small North Bay city of Sebastopol is located 50 miles north of San Francisco and eight miles west of Santa Rosa. Settlers named Sebastopol after the Russian seaport of Sevastopol. The city's official tree is the Gravenstein apple (the apple industry was Sebastopol's principal industry during the first half of the 20th century).
